PRESS RELEASE - CARRARA PARK COMMUNITY BASKS IN THE SUN
Sunday 2 September @ Carrara Park, WGTN.
A fantastically hot Fathers Day in Newtown fuelled the fun at the first Radio Active Carrara Park Community Concert. An estimated crowd of 250 people from many cultural backgrounds enjoyed the sounds of local Newtown acts Maz Hermon, Jessie James, People Theatre and new big band Newtown Rocksteady. A tremendous hit was the Push Play sports trailer supplied by Craig Ireson of the WCC. Kids and Adults alike enjoyed the sack races, Gumboot throwing, Volleyball, Limbo competition and various other games. Carrara Park is a natural venue for a concert, says organiser James Coyle of the Newtown Residents association, 'These monthly concerts will only grow in popularity over the summer months as more people learn the location of the park and the regularity of the concerts'.
The crowd got up and danced when big band Newtown Rocksteady rocked
the truck stage in the late sun. The Rocksteady are starting a regular dance
night at the Newtown Community Centre every Friday, commencing Friday 14th
September at 7pm.
The next Carrara Park concert is on SUNDAY 7 OCTOBER, and promises to have local food stalls, performances from Newtown schools and even more entertainment and games for the people of Newtown. All welcome!
James Coyle
