Hikoikoi Reserve, Friday 11 August @ Mighty Mighty, WGTN.
Although not traditionally a venue for reggae music, Cuba Mall's popular Mighty Mighty Bar catered well for Hikoikoi Reserve fans who came out to celebrate the release of the band's latest single 'Vibraphone'.
With support from selector Duke Willis and MC Mighty Asterix, the crowd were also treated to some guest vocalists earlier on, including Asterix's son Desta, who is certainly an MC to look out for in the future.
Hikoikoi then took to the stage with a few instrumental jams consisting of guitar, keys, rhodes bass, and drums. Soon after, the band was joined by two other vocalists/percussionists, a trombone player and also jammed a few numbers with MC Mighty Asterix, who shone bright with the sound of a live reggae band behind him.
Laying down a smooth set of smokey bass and drum driven grooves, Hikoikoi showcased tunes from their new album (in the making) and demonstrated their strong and very unique sound in Aotearoa Reggae music.
Get out and grab yourslef copy of the 'Vibraphone' single and look out for other upcoming Hikoikoi Reserve releases.
