JAH MASON & SELECTOR LENNY ROOTS

Jah Mason and Selector Lenny Roots, Thursday 6 September @ Sandwiches, WGTN.

On Thursday 6 the NZ Reggae massive were blessed by the righteous vibes of Jah Mason & Lenny Roots!

I arrived at Sandwiches just after 11pm to the heavy weight sounds of the Yardwise Massive - they had the dance floor packed and there were good vibes inside the house. Yardwise kept the vibe irie, runnin the dance with a great selection of conscious riddims, with the one like The Mighty Asterix gracing the mic and bringing the niceness - the perfect warm up for Jah Mason!

Lenny Roots hit the ones and twos at about midnight and dropped four very nice riddims to introduce himself and hype the Welly massive for the arrival of Jah Mason. Jah Mason hit the stage with his trademark turban and donning an army/Rasta uniform with a red, green, gold scarf and sunnies. Right from the first riddim he had the crowd captivated with mesmerizing energy and stage presence taking us on a musical journey through his back catalogue. In amongst the heavy riddims being dropped such as Love is the Way, Wheat & Tears, and Danger Zone, Jah Mason spread his conscious message of righteousness and Rastafari which I found refreshing and created a feel-good vibe throughout Sandwiches.

The first impression you get of Jah Mason is that of a tall, warrior-like man, but when he opens his mouth you hear the humbleness in his voice and the positive message of Haile Selassie I's teachings. The tune of the night for me was the ganja anthem Ganja For Life - it was the full dance-floor runner.  Big ups to Jah Mason and Lenny Roots for an excellent show and for sharing their positive message of unity. It was a great celebration of Roots and Culture in Wellington city and we look forward to many more such events!

Big ups to the promoters NiceUp and Newtown Sound for having the vision to bring such an outstanding show to the Wellington massive!! BIG UPS!!
