Artist: Mungos Hi Fi
Track: Crisis ft. Conny Ras & Steady Ranks
Bad From EP
Forthcoming Scotch Bonnet
Glasgows reggae/dubstep heavyweight champions, Mungos Hi Fi, takes the title for Track of the Week this week, coming with a no nonsense set of vocal and dub versions forthcoming on their very own Scotch Bonnet imprint. More notably their collaboration version featuring reggae vocalists Conny Ras and Steady Ranks is my favorite vocal version, bringing conscious lyrics which speak the truth about the idiotic cycle of gun grime.
The snappy scattered snare rhythms and melodic simplicity against the warm and deep rounded sub weight lay down the foundations for a truthfully devastating dub that will test any sound system. I look forward to hearing this one on the Vital Sounds or Subtle Sound system rigs when it finally see's release on vinyl some time in the next few months.
Anyone who has been following the reggae, dancehall and dubstep soundclashes and who attended the Mungo's Hi Fi and Earl Gateshead NZ tour this year will know Mungo's Hi Fi's riddims bring the vibes in the dance. This is another essential tune that joins the dots of contemporary reggae, dancehall and dubstep along side their classics Dubplate Fi Dem, Did You Really Know, Babylon and Fire Pon a Dubplate. Heavy plate.
