J-Star - One Life One Hope/Taxi Damaja

7" single (white label)

Currently in New Zealand on his annual summer working holiday, J-Star consistently proves himself to be king of the reggae mash-ups.  On the A-side Roots Manuva's 'Witness The Fitness' gets mashed with a custom-built wobbly bassline and the righteous horn riff from Yabby You's classic 'Deliver Me From My Enemies'.

This track originally appeared on the now deleted compilation 'Cut Ups, Muck Ups & Bruck Ups Vol 2' back in 2010, but is now available as a limited edition white label seven-inch for vinyl heads and also as a digital download (see link below).  This is a powerful and classy combination of dubstep b-line, Rasta horns and the U.K.'s finest MC which ticks all the right boxes and will undoubtedly test your subs.

On the flipside Jeru The Damaja's 'Ya Playin' Yaself' accapella from 1996 is grafted onto a speeded-up Sly and Robbie dub rhythm.  Not quite as instantly gratifying as the A-side, this one will still definitely get head-nods from those who dig the 'golden eras' of both Kingston and Brooklyn.
