LV feat Errol Bellot - Don't Judge
The 2nd Drop camp come correct with this stunning slice of wax,
released towards the end of last year. South London based four-piece LV
have a sound typically stripped back enough to be roots, but with one foot purposefully stepping to the future - displaying an affinity for both lush dubbed up instrumentation and crisp 8-bit textures. Here they're accompanied by the sweet tones of seasoned UK rootsman Errol Bellot (who has worked with King Tubby among others).
Don't Judge finds them in melodic form, laying down jazzy horns and
keys over a grooving reggae skeleton, with Errol Bellot dropping the
dread consciousness. A deep, detailed and soulful piece of music this
one's been in the record bag for sometime and doesn't look like going
anywhere soon. Vibes.
On
the flip Wolverhampton's Fantastic Mr Fox reworks the tune into an
insanely jiggy 2-step pattern, retaining the thick vibe of original and
infecting it with his own peculiar blend of clock-work garage. The
result is impossible to listen to without breaking out into a smile and
a shuffle.
All this in a fetching handprinted sleeve with some great artwork courtesy of Mat Pringle. Very nice release.
Anyone feeling this should also check LV and Errol
Bellot's earlier collaboration, the excellent Globetrotting released
on Hyperdub in 2007. Sweet and low.
