Nas & Damian Marley - As We Enter

As We Enter was the first track to be leaked from Nas and Damian Jr Gong Marley's Distant Relatives album due for world-wide release on April 20 (4/20!), although a friend of mine recently returned from the U.S. and was boasting he had the album.

I can't imagine there are many reggae heads who haven't heard of these two artists but for those who haven't, Jr Gong is Bob Marley's youngest son,who has released three albums, including the massive world-wide hit Welcome to Jamrock, as well as releasing tunes with Redman and Method Man from Wu Tang, Michael Rose, Steel Pulse and many others. Nas is the son of Jazz musician Olu Dara and has released eight albums to date including Hip Hop Is Dead in 2006 and a 'greatest hits' in 2007.

As We Enter is heavyweight track that could fit into a dancehall or hip-hop set.  I can even see this track creeping into the mainstream with its bouncy beat.

Lyrically this track is on point, with Nas and Jr Gong going bar for bar, matching and complementing  each others tight rhyming skills.

The beat is built from Mulatu Astatke's Yegelle Tezeta (My Own Memory) track which is featured on the album Ethiopiques Vol.4: Ethio Jazz & Musique Instrumentals (I highly recommend listening to this album). Mulatu is considered to be the father of Ethio-jazz.

Big ups to Undercover for dropping this track at our last Wake The town gig! It was well received by the crowd!
