Peter Hunnigale - Rub-A-Dub Style

This is my last review of the year and the tune I have chosen is not a new release, but it is a significant record. There has been a lot of debate of late about the state of reggae music by many of the experts of the reggae world. Some feel it is sounding too much like hip-hop, some say it has become too dance orientated. One of the main criticisms is that reggae is sounding like everything but reggae.

After reading many posts, and hearing many an interview on this subject, it inspired me to dig into my collection and draw for this record - Peter Hunnigale's 'Rub-A-Dub Style'. This tune enscapulates the reggae feel, and its message is pure and simple - the sweet rhythmic sound which reggae is synonymous for is still alive and kicking.

It was originally released as a single in 2002 and was also featured on Hunnigale's 'Can't Stop' album. The song utilises the same rhythm as Selah Collin's 'Empress'. Both tunes were released on the Sirius Record label. At a time where mostly computer built tunes were common place, this tune featured live instruments and came like a breathe of fresh air.

Peter or 'Mr Honey Vibes' as he is affectionately known, is one England's premiere reggae vocalists. From his debut record 'Slipping Away', from 1983 to the present day, Mr Honey Vibes has been a year to year cornerstone of the reggae industry and when he sings it's all about sweetness! So like back in the day....come we do it 'inna Rub-A-Dub style!
