Teff - Boarding Pass

This is an artist I actually know very little about.  But I do know that he's from Philadelphia, that he mixes up his styles from dancehall to hip-hop, and that he kills it on the 'So Bad' riddim!

The 'So Bad' riddim is huge, so many established artists as well as the biggest up and comers spit fyah all over it, it's a big riddim that has been a constant for me any time I have played recently.

Teff is up against some big names on this riddim, as a relative unknown it must have been a little intimidating stepping into the booth when riddim destroyers like Bugle, Vybz and flavor of the month Popcaan have already set the bar so high.

But in my opinion Teff delivers the biggest tune on this riddim, although in all honesty not by much. Bugle also kills it as he does 99.9% of the time (I'm a little biased when it comes to Bugle). Another stand-out cut is by the also relatively new artist Jahmiel.

Teff steps up with smooth vocals that are slightly auto tuned, but this man has a damn good voice and delivers the goods. Although he doesn't really do anything new or very different, he has somehow taken this riddim and made it his own.

His lyrical content is also a little run of the mill, with him literally singing about travel (there is probably a little more to it), but for some reason he stands out, even over the very good but a little strange Tommy Lee, 'Some Bwoy' version.

Check Teff's video - I think he filmed it on his iPhone!

All in all a very tuff riddim and a stand out for me at the moment, in a great period when so many amazing riddims are being released daily!

I discovered this thanks to Sandy Bay Social Club selector, Ed G on his Rollin on Dubs TV blog.

Check out Teff and let's hope he keeps up this standard!

Bless up!
