Album: Puppets
Label: Aquatic Lab Records
The sound of Dubstep has come a long way over the years in Aotearoa with producers building tunes with depth, weight and creative ideas which is pushing NZ Dubstep in new and interesting directions. For those of you who have been living under a rock for the last three years Truth are a Dubstep trio from Christchurch who have recently returned from an epic worldwide tour, need I say more? Tunes like Fatman, Burglar, Lost At Sea and Hubba Ho Step are examples of their ability to bring quality, variety and tight low end weight to the table.
Their debut album Puppets released this month on Aquatic Lab Records showcases fifteen big riddims each with their own unique flavour. After first hearing Wicked Vibe Broccoli off their YouTube clip of their worldwide tour something about this tune struck a chord with me and in recent months it has found it's way in to my DJ sets, working the dance every time. This is classic no nonsense sub bass and rolling percussion Truth are well known for with wicked energy resonating from the contrast of spaced out reggae vocals and 80's electro inspired synth sounds.
I am also looking forwards to Truth's Hubba Ho Step being released this year on Disfigured Dubz. Wellington people can check Truth at their release party for the album down at Sandwiches, Friday 10th September.
